Using Technology to Reduce Energy Costs

I've been looking at Whole-House energy monitors and "The Energy Detective" (TED) seems to be the winner. It supports multiple electrical sub-panels (I have 2 since I added onto the house) and it connects to your PC to allow logging.

I'm a firm believer that when you make something easier to measure you can alter behaviors. TED looks like a perfect way to know when your energy use is "out of bounds". I plan to buy one soon...

Using Technology to reduce Health-care costs

With all the election-year media attention attention on Health Care, I like this concept of using technology to assist with medication compliance. A common addage says you can't control what you can't measure. Giving health care professionals feedback on the patients self-care can only improve the care and reduce the costs we all bare. Take a look...

Lessig Video Blog - 4Barak

While this will take some time out of your day, it is an insightful piece on why Lessig, a noted teacher and writer on copywrites and the Internet, supports Barak Obama's campaign. While I typically avoid political debate, the points made about Obama as a LEADER mesh well with my own beliefs on the power of positive leadership.

Custom pics on your 26" Wheels?

You have to see this - 26" wheels with LEDs that use persistence of vision tricks to display images the size of the wheel - follow the link for video...

Forget the spinners: pimp rims go high-tech | Leftlane News - Car News For Enthusiasts

I'd like to see how they get power onto the wheel - the specs mention a wireless modem for transmitting images to the wheel. In the video, they even mention uploading images as you drive.

Clean your Screen with Brasso

I've read for a while now that you could clean your iPod or cell screen with Brasso, but never had a bad enough scratch to try it. Recently, I was a mega-dork and answered my phone after using some "GreatStuff" expanding foam - that stuff is like expanding superglue...needless to say I got permacrud on my Blackberry 7100t screen. A quick polishing adventure with Brasso and a cotton pad removed all the crud, and took out a really annoying vertical scratch. Here's a link to instructions with photos, but I just put some on a cotton pad and buffed out the crud.
